Why does every one think the DARK NIGHT was the best movie of the year ?

Ok I myself rented it last night just because of the hype that is a really good movie and i was very dissapointed . It started off good but as soon as that gurl was blown up and that guys face was burned it seemed as if a 12 yr old was writing the skript lol and it suprised me that batman showed no remorse at all that the luv of his life was dead, The only light of the film was the joker ( heath ledger ) he seemed to be the only one in the film that could act at all, now that he is dead I doubt I will be seeing another batman sequal since he wont be returning in the film. Who agrees that this movie is a dud ?
