Question about the title of an obscure B-movie I saw about aliens?

I remember very little about the movie, i probably saw it like 15 yrs ago..but from what i do remember it was about this guy who was trying to save the world from aliens that were using the TV to hypnotize people into a trans of some sort..i think the movie was either from the 80s or 70s and i want to say it was in color (but maybe it was b&w not sure) a few scenes i remember was when they were in some type of workout center and wearing these shiny metallic looking sweatsuits and another scene was one of the characters was in their bedroom and there was a sheriff or something and they were trying to save the person before they looked at the TV??? Im sorry im so vague with the details but it was so long ago that i dont remember too much but i would love to see this movie again so if anyone can help ill be very appreciative!!
