Question about moles,please help?

I have a mole that I may have to get removed...it is on the back of my neck. It is slightly bigger then it was and it is also more then one shade of brown,which is not good. I was wondering if anyone knows about the procedure they go through to get rid or moles? Is this painfull?? What is it like,what do they do?
